BRIDGES Research Program

Fisheries and Biodiversity in the Western Indian Ocean

BRIDGES Research Program aims to identify solutions for biodiversity conservation and fair, sustainable fishing at the local scale of several study sites and at the regional scale of the South-Western Indian Ocean.

It is structured into 6 interconnected targeted scientific projects.

In this newsletter, you will find a presentation of the first 3 targeted projects, as well as the events in which BRIDGES has taken part in recent weeks, and illustrated materials to help you understand the Program.

EVENTS

BRIDGES at the GdR OMER Ocean Days

On February 3 and 4, 2025, the Ocean and Sea Days organized by the OMER research group at CNRS headquarters brought together scientists, decision-makers and artists to rethink ocean research and its links with society and public policy.

BRIDGES was represented by :

  • Joachim Claudet, BRIDGES Scientific Director, who opened the session on global ocean governance.
  • Pierre Brasseur, leader of BRIDGES AVATAR, who contributed his expertise on numerical modeling and digital twins of the ocean.
  • Brice Trouillet, leader of BRIDGES CO-CONSTRUCTION, who took part in discussions on the links between science and public policy.
  • Fabrizio d'Ortenzio, director of the GDR OMER, and Patrice Guillotreau, both BRIDGES researchers, who led key sessions on interdisciplinarity and science-society connections.
