A look back at the first BRIDGES x WIOMSA 2025 school: Strengthening interdisciplinary approaches for the resilience of marine socio-ecosystems in the western Indian Ocean

In September 2025, the BRIDGES research program organized its very first school, in partnership with the WIOMSA.

BRIDGES schools are interdisciplinary training programs that bring together researchers, students, and practitioners to address major issues related to the study and management of marine commons. They promote a socio-ecosystem approach, integrating ecological, social, and governance dimensions, and question the methods, concepts, and impacts of science.

One of the central objectives of BRIDGES schools is to promote the capacity sharing and networking among actors in the southwestern Indian Ocean, while supporting dialogue between science, society, and decision-makers.

This first edition brought together students, young researchers, practitioners, and international experts around key themes:
