Introducing the BRIDGES Data Hub
The BRIDGES programme is based on an interdisciplinary and integrated approach, structured around Targeted Projects. To strengthen collaborations between these projects, it is essential to structure activities related to the acquisition, management, circulation, valorization and use of data at the program level.
It is in this context that the BRIDGES Data Hub was created, a collaborative space dedicated to the coordination and pooling of data for more efficient and open research.
A hub at the service of data
The data used in BRIDGES is varied: existing data from other programmes, data produced within the framework of BRIDGES (observatory, specific acquisition), or data created by complementary projects. The Data Division aims to consolidate, share and enhance these resources to maximize their impact.
Its main missions are as follows:
- Coordinate data-related activities between Targeted Projects, promoting consistency of practice and updating of Data Management Plans; by promoting the coherence of data management and provision practices, by sharing best practices and feedback and by working to update the Data Management Plans of the different PCs to facilitate their final rendering;
- Develop common tools and services, such as the BRIDGES catalogue, created within the framework of BRIDGES-INFORMATION, and propose solutions for data exploration, visualization and dissemination;
- Support training and awareness of good practices (standardization, visualization tools, FAIR principles, Open Science, etc.);
- Monitor data policies (open data, restricted access, embargoes) and legal frameworks (ownership, licenses, GDPR), taking into account regional specificities.
A collaborative and open operation
The Data Division is made up of referents designated by each Targeted Project (scientists, engineers, developers), but it is open to all volunteer members from the program’s partners. It is led by the Engineer recruited as part of BRIDGES-INFORMATION, then BRIDGES-TRANSVERSE, under the technical coordination of Data Terra and its ODATIS ocean division.
The meetings, organised bimonthly, are structured around several highlights:
- Presentation of an Information System or a platform by an external speaker (Sextant, Quadriga, GeoSur, etc.);
- Update on the progress of the Information System and the BRIDGES catalogue;
- Sharing of data news and feedback on needs, useful to the program’s scientific community;
Join the Data Hub
The Data Hub is a place for exchange around BRIDGES data. Each meeting is an opportunity to share information, tools or news useful to the community.
