BRIDGES Trainings
BRIDGES Training Programs are interdisciplinary initiatives addressing major challenges related to the study and management of marine socio-ecosystems. These programs promote a socio-ecosystemic approach within an interactive, international, and multicultural framework.
Objectives
The BRIDGES trainings aim to:
- Foster the capacity sharing and the networking of stakeholders in the southwestern Indian Ocean, while supporting dialogue between science, society, and decision-makers.
- Familiarize participants with scientific methods and concepts related to the study and management of marine socio-ecosystems.
- Enable academic participants to better understand the realities and needs of field actors, and vice versa.
- Promote exchanges on cutting-edge knowledge and methods in an interactive and less formal setting than traditional training.
- Provide a conducive environment for networking and developing collaborations for future joint projects.
Target audiences
BRIDGES trainings are designed for both field actors and researchers, as well as students:
- Field actors, managers, conservation professionals, fisheries experts, BRIDGES partners, and other professionals.
- Students and young researchers involved in the BRIDGES program (master’s, PhD students, post-doctoral researchers, engineers).
- Other students from universities in the southwestern Indian Ocean region.
- Researchers or students involved in projects unrelated to BRIDGES.
Details
- Duration: 1 week, in English or French.
- Format: Lectures, practical workshops on real case studies, tutorials, and field excursions.
- Supervision: International experts, experienced researchers, and professionals.
- Cost: Free of charge—the program covers travel and logistics during the stay.
- Selection: Participants are chosen based on their skills, motivation, academic or professional needs, and alignment with the training program.
We welcome collaboration with existing programs, universities, academic actors, and other contributors to organize future schools in the region, with the goal of advancing science for biodiversity conservation and fair, sustainable fisheries in the Indian Ocean.
