🗨️ Speaker: Julie Furiga, Research Engineer at the CNRS , within the Data Terra Research Institute and the BRIDGES INFORMATION targeted project.
Abstract
How can acquired and new knowledge be promoted and disseminated more effectively?
How can data-sharing for knowledge and action purposes be organised more effectively?
How can it be ensured that BRIDGES stakeholders actually appropriate the data and services? These are the questions that BRIDGES INFORMATION seeks to address, and it is within this framework that the development of the data catalogue takes place.
BRIDGES INFORMATION‘s objective is to construct an information system that brings together existing data and digital resources that are useful for the study of the socio-ecosystems of the South-West Indian Ocean (SWIO). This will then act as a data and knowledge base for other targeted BRIDGES-linked projects and also for the broader scientific community.
Effective research data management should, among other things, accelerate scientific discoveries and innovations, encourage scientific and interdisciplinary collaboration, promote data reuse, ensure the integrity and reproducibility of research, and enable open access to data — opening up new fields of analysis.
By identifying, planning, and leveraging all available data on fisheries and marine biodiversity socio-ecosystems in the SWIO, and more specifically around sites of interest, BRIDGES INFORMATION seeks to ensure that everyone benefits from collective resources and contributes to making results available in accordance with the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable).
During this webinar, we will present the BRIDGES data catalogue as it stands today: the principles behind its construction, the data currently accessible, and its future developments.

Julie FURIGA
Research Engineer at CNRS – Data Terra / BRIDGES, La Reunion Island
Julie Furiga is a Research Engineer at the CNRS, within the Data Terra Research Institute and the BRIDGES INFORMATION targeted project.
Julie graduated from the European University Institute of the Sea (UBO) in Brest, France. Her early work focused on coastal dynamics and risks in France. She then served as a project officer at the Observatory of Coastal Dynamics in French Guiana, before working as a cartographer and spatial analyst specialising in land use mapping of coastal territories.
These diverse experiences gave her a deep understanding of the complexity of the maritime environment, with a focus on marine spatial planning, marine protected areas, fisheries issues, marine renewable energies, and ocean conservation.
Today, Julie works across two complementary roles: within the BRIDGES INFORMATION project, she focuses on interdisciplinary data management related to the Ocean; and at the Data Terra Research Institute, she develops its activities in the Indian Ocean region, including research support and scientific community engagement.
To facilitate the understanding of complex socio-ecosystems, Julie draws on a range of tools, including cartography and GIS, surveys, statistics, and science communication methods.
