Abstract

During this webinar, Eddie Allison, Expert in aquatic food systems, fisheries, and coastal livelihoods, shares insights drawn from his research and experience in the Pacific region and Timor-Leste.

Through these concrete examples, Eddie Allison presents the concept of island food systems and shows how island contexts shape the resilience, sustainability, and governance of food systems.

The webinar also explores how these insights can inform future work in the South-West Indian Ocean region, particularly within the framework of the BRIDGES program. The session additionally introduces a forthcoming PhD project aimed at improving understanding of the resilience of island food systems in the face of climate change.

Eddie Allison

Principal Scientist at WorldFish (Malaysia, Penang) and member of the BRIDGES Scientific Advisory Board.

Edward Allison is a Principal Scientist at the international research organization Worldfish (Malaysia).

His research focuses on the connections between humans and natural resources, including

The contributions of fisheries and aquaculture to food and nutrition security and coastal habitats
The governance of small-scale fisheries and aquaculture and the human rights of fishers
The vulnerability and adaptation to climate change of marine resource-dependent populations.

He advises the High Level Panel for an Ocean Economy and the Oceana organization.
